Mohammed Ali Citadel (Fort) This is the oldest fort in Cairo. It is located in the heart of Cairo. The unique feature of this fort is that it was built by a Muslim ruler Mohammed Ali. Inside the citadel is a huge Mosque in Moroccan architecture. This Mosque is very unique and eye stunning with a huge chandelier encircling the whole mosque from inside and a very huge MEMBER (Sermon Steps) made out of wood. This fort is located on an elevated ground. The water for WADU (ablution) for this mosque was pumped from river Nile with a unique and amazing water channel, which is under restoration now. |
